Portland Trail Blazers on historically bad six-game losing streak

The Portland Trailblazer isn’t the worst team in the NBA. They are really far from it. However, their past six games would indicate otherwise. They’re disappearing like there’s no tomorrow. Since the February 24 home game against the Golden State Warriors, the Trail Blazers have lost every game they’ve played, and not only have they lost, they’ve been laughed out of the building.

None of these games ended within 10 points. Only once has the Trail Blazers scored more than 100 points. Not once has the Trail Blazers held an opponent below 120 points. If you’re thinking that’s not a good combination, it’s not. In their past six games, the Trail Blazers have been 194 points behind. That’s over 32 points per game. There’s no chance for any team to actually try to win and lose that much consistently.

There have been a lot of bad teams in the history of the NBA. Still, being overtaken by even 150 points in six games has happened just 11 other times in NBA history (this 2021-22 Blazers hold two of those distinctions, more then). That being said, it happens more often in recent years. In 2021 alone, there have been two instances of such teams being overtaken by more than 150 points over a six-game period.

Between May 1 and May 9, 2021, the Oklahoma City Thunder hit 0-6 with a difference of -152. The round started with a 57-point loss at home to the Indiana Pacers. However, the Thunder held their ground in the games that followed. Where the Trail Blazers were unable to host a single-game match in the single-digit range, the 2021 Thunder put up a tough fight with several competing teams. On the night after being defeated by 57, the Thunder nearly won a game from eventual Western Conference champions Phoenix Suns, ultimately losing 123-120. Two nights later, Thunder fell on Sacramento Kings 103-99. Yes, I know the kings aren’t playing well, but it’s still a close game and that’s all the Blazers can say for now.

Another infamous record in 2021 also came under the hands of the Thunder God. Oddly enough, these two streaks don’t overlap at all. They’ve only been this bad twice in the same season. Starting on April 2 and ending on April 10, the Thunder went 0-6 with a difference of -171. Their first three games in that span saw Thunder overtake by 109 points (36.3 points per game). However, the team was able to gather some dignity in their following three defeats, losing just 11 at home to the Hornets, ONLY ONE 27 to Cavs, and ONLY ONE 24 to 76ers. Think about that. I just mentioned two 20-point losses in three games and that’s enough to not be the worst six-game stretch in NBA history. That’s the Blazers’ bad way. While Portland hasn’t suffered a single 50-point loss during their run, they’ve experienced five losses of at least 30. That has never been done before in such a short amount of time. so.

There have been two other such streaks since 2010: 2018 Phoenix SunsFrom 2nd to 12th February – over 160 points, and Philadelphia 76ers 2014, From February 9 to 24 – surpassing 154 points. It is no coincidence that most of these streaks occur in February or later. That’s when tank season kicks in.

You know what’s even crazier about this current Portland chain? The Blazers won the match on February 16 against Memphis, their most recent game before their bad game began. Their next five games alone have been so bad that, even with a win in the replay of the previous six, the Blazers are still down by more than 152 points. Hence why I said earlier that the team had two games spanning six matches where they were overtaken by 150 points or more.

What’s the matter, boy? The Blazers have won four games in a row before this streak. They beat LeBron James and the Lakers, then defended home against the New York Knicks. They went to the top and took out Khris Middleton and the Milwaukee Bucks (Giannis didn’t play) then beat the Grizzlies – currently #2 seed in the Western Conference – in Memphis. How did that team have the worst six-game streak in NBA history right after that?

Of course, the NBA All-Star Game probably has something to do with it. Just as the team is going into the trenches and fighting hard against some big teams, they have to stop their momentum and watch Steph Curry, who knocked them out of the playoffs three times in a span of four years, knock them down. . down 16 triples on the way to the 50 point game and the All-Star MVP Award. That probably just pissed them off.

Of course, there’s also the fact that Damian Lillard hasn’t played a game in 2022, but he hasn’t played before the All-Star Game either, and like I said, they’ve played well, or at least mastered. , before then after that. The Jusuf Nurkić foot injury this has kept him out since the All-Star break was definitely burned, but I don’t think anyone expected the team to be this badly hurt in his absence.

On the bright side, the Blazers face another struggling roster against the Washington Wizards tonight. Washington has lost 2 and 5 in a row in the past 7 games. They’re on the second night of their West Coast head-to-head road game. If there was ever an opportunity for a struggling team like the Blazers to ever walk away with the dub, it is now. I guess we’ll have to see how strong Portland’s counter effort is. Will it be enough to lose another 30? That is the question.
