Porsche 911 turned into real life Sally from ‘Cars’ and you can own it

Porsche and Pixar Animation Studios have created a real-life version of Sally Carrera, the 2002 animated Porsche 911 Carrera from the Pixar movie “Cars,” and they plan to auction it off for charity.

The project was first announced in March and only a single model, called the Porsche 911 Sally Special, has been built. It will go on sale August 20 in an RM Sotheby’s auction to coincide with Monterey Car Week 2022, along with a matching watch. All proceeds will benefit Girls Inc. and the United States to UNHCR, which provides aid to children and their families affected by the conflict in Ukraine.

A collaboration between Pixar, Porsche’s own design studio, and the automaker Exclusive Manufaktur Personalized program, the project began as a way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 2002 911 Carrera’s birth. Sally, who serves as the main promoter for the quaint town of Radiator Springs in Cars, is probably the most famous 2002 911 around, after all.

Her real life version is based on the fastest modern 911 Carreras, 2022 911 Carrera GTS. The car has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder that makes 473 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, or enough to accelerate from 0-60 mph in 3.1 seconds. That number is with the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Choose the 7-speed manual transmission that the 911 Sally Special features and you’re looking at a time of around 3.9 seconds.

The design of the 911 Sally Special was only inspired by the car in the movie. We can’t imagine how the design team would recreate Sally’s eyes and other facial features.

“We decided early on that we wanted to create a drivable 911 inspired by, but not a direct copy of, Sally Carrera,” said Jay Ward, the franchise’s creative director. Pixar, said in a statement. “After all, she loves to drive, and that helped guide us.”

This is a one-of-a-kind build, and it includes an inscription on the dash to signify that fact. Other unique details include a blue paint job, called Sally Blue Metallic, which is applied to the exterior as much as possible. The car also has a tattoo of the word Sally on the rear of the car.

You’ll also notice the wheels, which have a similar design to the original Porsche Turbo style wheels offered in the early 2000s, and the design featured on the Sally Carrera. For the 911 Sally Special, the 5-spoke design needed to be modified to increase the wheel size to 20 and 21 inches on a modern car. For example, the winning bidder will also receive a second set of standard wheels that they can perfect in a single day of competition.

The 911 Sally Special will be on display during Monterey Car Week which begins Friday and runs through August 21 in Monterey, California. For more information about the event, visit Our dedicated center.
