A couple wedding announcement was supposed to attract online congratulations. Instead, it went viral due to too much criticism and days in Popeyes.
The biggest shock of this story, for me, is that it’s contained in The Oaths of the Ages.

Husband and wife Stevenson Boyce of Boston, 44, and Shalysis Wade, 34, revealed in The New York Times Little oath Sbelieve they met on the dating app Hinge before getting married. According to the article, Stevenson canceled their first date twice before the two met in a Popeyes parking lot. Shaasty added that the queue for Popeyes was so long that Stevenson ended up buying himself a meal from KFC across the street.
The two continued to date when Stevenson let go of five other women he also dated, eventually making Wade his girlfriend. Months later, on a trip to Barbados, Stevenson admitted he had proposed to Sha’a with a ring bought by his close friend and co-worker.
The couple got married on July 23 and after sharing the public announcement went viral due to their unorthodox love story. Receiving hundreds of concurring comments, one Twitter user wrote:
Their first date wasn’t in Popeyes, for sure, but in a Popeyes parking lot. After he canceled her twice. He is a divorcee 10 years older than her, dating 6 women. His colleague bought the ring. She is the Vice President of a multi-billion dollar company.

Bride’s friend defends her Popeyes love story
A Twitter user who went online Jasmine claimed to know bride Sharea Wade and stood up for her after seeing negative things in her relationship. She tweeted:
As someone who KNOW this bride and has been at this wedding, know that she is happy, prosperous, loved and blessed. She never wanted to get married but she found a *wonderful* guy who opened the door for her to a better life. She’s not stupid and he’ll do his job well. They good!
Jasmine continued to shoot down the assumptions in a second tweet.
It’s sad that you all answered and QT this with so many ASSUMPTIONS forgetting how it works. The author chose the episodes of the story to include and put it together so that everyone would eat it like this. Because it is often missing a lot. You all continue.
Roomies, do you think this situation deserves such judgment?
Jasmine flowers. She never wanted to get married but dated Hinge in a Popeyes parking lot at the beginning of the pandemic, kissed a stranger who was seeing 6 other women during a pandemic, moved him in for a match. pandemic after 6 months and accept a ring he didn’t buy, but are we idiots? https://t.co/jz9UOoiRCp

NYT wedding announcements are often beloved and aspirational.
The publication of Popeyes’ parking lot engagement story was aimed at demeaning Black women and making them think it was acceptable to deal with mediocrity. Anyway, I won’t renew my subscription.– Kia Richards (@KiaRichards_) August 7, 2022
