Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet Preview – Everything We Learned About Paldea Region, New Pokémon, and Terastallizing

During today’s Pokémon Presents live stream, The Pokémon Company revealed a lot of new details surrounding the first fully open-world RPGs in the Pokémon series, Scarlet, and Violet. In the extended trailer and subsequent in-depth, we’ve received new information about the game’s region, how multiplayer works, some of the Pokémon players will encounter on their adventures. them and the new Terastal phenomenon that allows Pokémon to change.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the player goes on an adventure in the Paldea region, a vast area filled with lakes, mountains, wasteland, and more. In addition to the natural landscape, Paldea also has agricultural villages and port towns. The center of the region is its largest city, Mesagoza. Based on the version you’re playing, you’ll find either Naranja Academy or Uva Academy, each with different uniforms, emblems, and other details. Players receive a Rotom Phone, complete with a Pokédex app and a map of the entire Paldea region. As players journey through Paldea, they can take part in three major stories; a story featuring a traditional Pokémon storyline with eight gyms to conquer. This time, though, there’s no set order for how far trainers progress in the gyms.

Players can expect to find Pokémon living in treetops, rivers, and other areas of the wilderness, so they should keep an eye out too. In the trailer, we caught sight of various returning Pokémon, including Growlithe, Haunter, Pineco, and more, but we also got to know more about some of the new Pokémon we’ll be meeting. One such creature is the Paldean variant of Wooper’s favorite Gen II. This new form has a brown appearance instead of the standard blue and drains water to live on land. Because their gills have hardened when living on land, they move a little slower. However, they can shoot poisonous liquid from their gills.

On Paldean Wooper, we learned about two brand-new Pokémon, Scarlet and Violet. Fidough is a dog-like creature with elastic qualities. When the Fairy Fidoughs get excited, they push themselves up to appear larger. Fidough also ferments things around it using the yeast in its breath, which can also be useful for cooking. Then we have Cetitan, a new type of Ice that has incredible attack power thanks to its large body and strong defense thanks to its thick layer of fat.

We also learned more about the two Legendary Pokémon we saw on the box. Koraidon and Miraidon seem to have a much larger role in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet than the standard Legendaries included in your typical Pokémon game. One of these Legendary creatures joins the player on their journey as a partner. They can change forms to accommodate different methods of movement, allowing the player to sprint across flat lands, swim across rivers and lakes, or jump from mountains and buildings to surf. towards their destination. Koraidon’s forms have “Build” nomenclature (Sprint Build, Swim Build, and Surf Build), while Miraidon’s “Mode” naming convention (Drive Mode, Aquatic Mode) and Surfing Mode), presumably implying that one of them becomes more organic while the other is more mechanical.

However, those Legendary beasts aren’t the only Pokémon in Paldea that can change form. Like all recent generations, Gen IX introduces a new gimmick that will affect how Pokémon can harness new powers in battle. Like the Dynamax and Mega Evolutions of previous generations, Pokémon in the Paldea region can Terastallize, making them shine like gems and become more powerful. Some Pokémon even change types when they Terastallize. They can be different even within the same Pokémon species. For example, one Eevee might remain Normal when it Terastallizes, while another Eevee might have a different Tera type.

Like Generation VIII’s Ultimate Raid Battles, Generation IX features Tera Raid Battles, four-player co-op battles against powerful, crystallized Pokémon. Unlike Sword and Shield’s Maximum Raid Battle, Scarlet and Violet’s Raid Battle is turn-based, meaning players can attack and heal without having to wait for other trainers to take their turn. me. These battles can be done through matchmaking or through a Link Code that friends can share with each other. If the team kills the crystallized Pokémon, the trainers have a chance to catch it.

However, that’s not the only way players can work together. Using Scarlet and Violet’s Union Circle, players can summon up to three friends to explore Paldea in the new four-player co-op. In addition to riding on the map to capture new creatures and new discoveries, you can also trade and battle with the people you encounter.

If you’re the one-player trainer type, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have more than a reasonable percentage of NPCs to interact with. In addition to the revealed Professor Sada and Professor Turo, we got to know some more characters that we will meet in Paldea. Clavell is the director of the academy you attend and teaches the player a few things about their school. Mr. Jacq is your homeroom teacher who guides you through Pokémon biology. Jacq is also the developer of the Pokédex app on your Rotom Phone. Arven is an upperclassman at the academy and is very good at cooking. Arven researches healthy recipes to help your Pokémon feel better. Penny is a shy character and doesn’t go to the academy very often.

The last character we meet in the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet trailer is Grusha. He is not only a professional skier but also the fitness team leader of Glaseado Gym. As you can imagine from his profession, Grusha is an Ice-type gym leader who has the newly announced Cetitan as his team Pokémon. This look at our first gym chief has me excited to see seven other gym chiefs again at some point in the near future.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet arrives on Nintendo Switch on November 18. Those who pre-order the game will receive a special Pikachu that moves Fly and has a Tera type called Flying. To see more screenshots from this informative Pokémon Gifts live stream, visit our full gallery here.
