To no one’s surprise, Pokémon Legends: Arceus sold a whopping 6.5 million copies, and it did so within just seven days of its January 28 release.
These sales numbers come on the same day Nintendo released its quarterly results, where the company revealed that Switch has surpassed 103 million units sold, surpassing the lifetime sales of the Wii. Nintendo also revealed in those results that it has not changed its investment plans due to recent acquisitions (look at you Microsoft and Sony) and that hybrid home console is just in the middle of its life.
Oddly enough, despite announcing sales numbers for games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and even Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Nintendo didn’t mention Game Freak’s latest release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Instead, the Kyoto-based company randomly released Pokémon Legends: Arceus sales figures a few hours later, in a tweet:
It’s no surprise that Pokémon Legends: Arceus is selling well. It’s not just a great game – Game informant give it 8.75 out of 10 – but Nintendo and Game Freak’s partnership has always produced top-selling games. Recent Pokémon Remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, sold just under 14 million copies and its predecessor, Pokémon Sword and Shield, are the best-selling Pokémon games of all time, sold 23.9 million copies.
