Pokémon: Ash’s English voice actor thanks the Japanese voice actor for 17 years of inspiration


In December, The Pokémon Company revealed that after 25 years, Ash’s time as the main character in the long-running Pokémon anime is coming to an end. He’s finally achieved his dream of becoming a Pokémon World Champion and now, it’s time for new characters – Loki, Roy, Professor Friede and Captain Pikachu – To take over.

Today, Ash’s journey has come to an end in Japan (dubbed version coming later) and his English voice actor, Sarah Natochenny, released a statement congratulating the Japanese voice actor. by Ash, Rica Matsumoto, and thank her for 17 years of inspiration.

As I continue to document the final episodes of Ash and Pikachu’s journey on Pokémon, I want to thank and congratulate the amazing woman who inspired my performance as the voice of Ash Ketchum’s brother for the past 17 years, Rica Matsumoto.

I also want to thank everyone who has worked with Pokémon in Japan, especially Ikue Otani (v/o Pikachu), Shin’ichiro Miki (v/o James), Megumi Hayashibara (v/o Jesse), Inuko Inuyama (v/oo Meowth), and current director Kunihiko Yuyama. Hooray, thank you, congratulations!”

Ash has been the main character of the main Pokémon anime for 25 years, and Matsumoto has been his Japanese voiceover the entire time. As for the English dub, Veronica Taylor voiced him for the first eight seasons. Natochenny took over the role starting in Season 9 and has remained the English voice of Ash ever since.

As Ash’s journey draws to a close today, The Pokémon Company also revealed its new Pokémon anime title – Pokémon Horizons: The Series.
