Plymouth 1 – 0 Oxford Utd

Second-half substitute Morgan Whittaker scored in the 70th minute to bring Plymouth victory over Oxford.

Sub-teammate Niall Ennis’ shot in the first leg was blocked, but when the ball fell to Whittaker’s position at the edge of the box, he shot into the bottom corner of the goal through a crowd of players.

Oxford had an immediate chance to respond but Kyle Joseph’s effort went over the bar as he crossed to connect with Sam Long’s cross from the right on a tachometer.

Argyle was the one with the better chances in the first half.

Swansea City loanee Kyle Joseph missed a great opportunity from four yards as Oxford United lost 1-0 to Plymouth at home.

The home team’s captain Joe Edwards headed in the direction of the goal with a well-informed move, and striker Ryan Hardie headed in the right direction.

Oxford goalkeeper Simon Eastwood made a brilliant save to deny Finn Azaz as he connected to Adam Randell’s low corner. The ball fell to Edwards, the header narrowly missed the post.

Hardie also catches up with Azaz, who misses the target.

But Whittaker made no mistake as Plymouth in form remained third in League One.
