Plus Size fashion on the red carpet and center stage at the 74th Emmy Awards

The Emmys aired last night and although I’m not a huge fan of the awards show, I always show up with a giant red carpet-killing bomb; or in this case should I say the golden carpet! Last night when I saw fashion and style pervading my timeline and on my TV screen for the 74th Emmy Awards, I was so excited.
When it comes to big fashion events and red carpets, plus size and style are ALWAYS few and far between or just never fully represented. There are a lot of holes, limitations and perfections distinguish in plus size fashion that I can’t even begin to list.
Every time a big red carpet event happens, I’m reminded that it’s rare to see an oversized person wearing high fashion and style on the catwalk. When I was younger, I used to wonder if fat women were even invited to big red carpet events! (I know, that sounds crazy right.)
So when I see the plus size girlies different body types, appearing at award shows and in these spaces, I give them legitimacy because I know what went into bringing this look together and bringing their vision to life. Seeing plus-size fashion on the red carpet deserves some time and we’re giving it a go!
Plus Size fashion on the red carpet– Emmy’s Edition
Lizzo
Tulle, tulle, and many other types of tulle! The first glance that caught my eye was, of course, the boisterous and gorgeous pop star, who was nominated for a 6x Emmy Award. (and winners!), Lizzo. She wore her hair in a high bun with a gorgeous red ruched dress and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry.
Nicole Byer
Nicole Byer appeared in royal blue like the regal goddess. She also made a splash in a dark blue silk crop top with pants and off-the-shoulder top. Who doesn’t love seeing some big abs and busts on the red carpet!? I know I do.
Nicole matched the suit with a beautiful natural ombre blonde in the African Fulani style.
Natasha Rothwell

Natasha Rothwell stuns in a ruby red satin long-sleeve gown that showcases a touch of Safiyaa elegance, made with jewelry by Angara and Lang Antiques. Her sleeves perfectly accentuated her smile and her natural hairstyle included a top bun with a slanted bang.
Melanie Lynskey
Melanie Lynskey appeared in a Christian Siriano original; a mint green shoulder number shirt with tassels and a bit of tulle on the bottom. I’ve always loved anything Christian Siriano makes. Melanie even spoke on the red carpet about how important the dress is to her and how happy she is to wear something that makes her feel comfortable.
Ashley Nicole Black
Ashley Nicole Black not only makes us happy on screen because “A Black Lady Sketching Show” and she writes in “Ted Lasso,” but she also appeared on the yellow carpet in a black dress with gloves to match! The see-through mesh on the bottom half of the dress provides just enough sexiness while her silver clutch and low bun provide a classic Hollywood look.
We need more Fashion plus size on the red carpet!
It’s important to watch this because while there are plus size designers and plus size stylists When ready, there are still quite a few designers and stylists who refuse to style or work with stars larger than 8/10. So yeah, I’m going to celebrate these looks and moments as it’s 2022 and unfortunately this is still considered groundbreaking.
AND, oversized people deserve to see themselves glamor and stop on the Emmy carpets and everywhere where high fashion is welcome and the norm.
The plus size girls showed plus size fashion on the red carpet, won last night. That’s it. That is all.
