PlayStation VR2 to Sports Through View, Cinematic Mode, Custom Play Area, More Features

PlayStation VR2 still doesn’t have a launch date, but Sony has revealed some new features. PS VR2 will come with a new see-through feature that is said to use embedded front cameras, so players can observe their surroundings without removing the headset. A new broadcasting feature will allow PS VR2 players to live stream themselves by connecting a PS5 HD camera to their console. It also revealed that these PS VR2 headsets will come with features like customizable play areas, VR Mode, and Cinema Mode.

Sony provides a glimpse of some of the new features included in its next generation PS VR2 virtual reality headset over one blog post. As mentioned earlier, the headset will have a see-through view allowing gamers to easily observe their surroundings without removing the headset. By pressing the function button on the headset or accessing Control Center settings, gamers will be able to switch between see-through view and PS VR2 content viewing. It should be noted that gamers will not be able to use this mode to record content.

PS VR2 will also be compatible with PS5 The HD camera allows them to record themselves while playing the game. The feature appears to be aimed at content creators and streamers, who can show off their reactions and record gameplay simultaneously.

To prevent gamers from bumping into their surroundings, PS VR2 will give gamers the option to set up a custom play area. Using embedded cameras, the headset will scan the room while the PS VR2 Sense controller will allow gamers to further tailor the playing area. Players will then receive a warning if they begin to approach the set boundaries.

Sony also shared details regarding PS VR2’s VR Mode and Cinema Mode. In VR Mode, content will be displayed in HDR video format with a resolution of 4,000×2040 pixels (2,000×2,040 pixels per eye) and a 90Hz/120Hz refresh rate. Meanwhile, players will be able to watch non-VR content in Cinema Mode. This mode will display multimedia content on a virtual cinema screen in HDR video format with a resolution of 1,920×1,080 pixels and a refresh rate of 24Hz / 60Hz / 120Hz.

Game developers will have access to these new PS VR2 features through an upcoming system software update.

Sony is expected to share more information about the PS VR2 soon, including the launch date and additional games.
