Playing GoldenEye on my iPad is real and breathtaking

I’ve never finished GoldenEye’s single player, even though I’ve been playing it since 1999 – and that’s mostly because of how good the multiplayer is. A long time ago, I had to dig out a nintendo 64 and four controllers just to play Rare’s game from 1997 with friends for the golden gun, but in the end, that’s no longer the case.
On January 27, 2023, GoldenEye has been made available for both Nintendo Switch and Xbox Game Passand though Switch features exclusive online multiplayer, a single-player campaign, and local split-screen multiplayer, available for both platforms. While you will need a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership to play it on the Nintendo Switch, well worth the initial price to play one of Rare’s best games.
However, with the game available to play on any device that can run Game Pass from the cloud, such as steam floor and Android handset, I think I should try GoldenEye on iPadPro with me 8BitDo Pro 2 . Controller connected, and I’m overwhelmed by how far we’ve come in the 25 years since the game was released.
Move over Tina Turner
Although my dog Jolly likes to wake me up early, I don’t mind today because I can try the game on both Switch and iPad. Oddly, the control scheme on the Switch is complicated, with the left trigger to fire and just an analog stick to control your movements.
However, on iPad via Xbox Cloud it’s a fun one, with dual analog control that reminds me of Halo, and precisely placed firing action on the right trigger of my 8BitDo Pro 2. Connecting to 5G and Wi-Fi shouldn’t be an issue with GamePass – while latency isn’t as good as my experience with GeForce nowI finished the first three levels with no problems.
Since the Xbox Cloud also has touch controls, playing with these on the first level shouldn’t be as much of a problem as I expected – everything works as intended, and if some of the buttons are too far apart, I can easily customize them to bring them closer.
However, as I play the game on my iPad, I’m reminded how big of a challenge this must be for Nintendo, its original publisher, its developer Rare, and MGM, the owner. owns the rights to James Bond.
only one remaster in development for Xbox 360 in the late 1990s, but rights issues were said to have gotten in the way and it was dropped. Looks like it’s another attempt – while there’s the original widescreen here, none of the textures and graphics have been reworked for HD TVs.
But that doesn’t matter – I can now play the single-player campaign on my iPad and play multiplayer, both offline and online using my Switch, no matter where I am, and that’s great. great for me.
Now if Rare can find a way to bring Perfect Dark and Blast Corps back to the same platform, that would be great and I wouldn’t ask for anything more, but a remake of Tomb Raider II since 1997 maybe.
