Pistons’ Cade Cunningham to have season-ending surgery—reports

Detroit Pistons combined guard and 2021 No. 1 overall pick Cade Cunningham needs left shin surgery at the end of the season, multiple outlets reported Monday.
Cunningham suffered a stress fracture of his shin and has been sidelined since November 9. The decision was made after several weeks of rest, consultation and discussion, according to reports. He is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for the 2023-24 season.
Cunningham’s second NBA season ended in just 12 games. He averaged 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game.
Cunningham finished third in the 2021-22 Rookie of the Year poll behind Scottie Barnes (Raptor) and Evan Mobley (Cavaliers) after averaging 17.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists create.
