Pink and white kitchen makeup (Before + After)

Great great great. Out of all the rooms that we did here our mid-century Pittsburgh homeThis kitchen front and back are really one the good (This is what the house looked like when we moved in).

When I saw the listing photos of the kitchen before we bought it, we fell in love with the large backyard windows, but I can tell that the actual kitchen isn’t my aesthetic. .

From the photos, it appeared to be in pretty good condition, but when we drove over to see the house in person (after purchasing via Skype), it was clear that the photos actually didn’t show the condition. reality of the room.

Besides the tile floors that were installed incorrectly (gaps all over the place and exposed tiles all over the house), there were parts of the laminated countertops that were taped with Scotch tape and the dishwashers installed too close. oven that hits the door every time you open it.

Many faux wood cabinets have been warped / peeled / damaged by water, the “tile” layer simply sticks to the plastic panels, soundproof partition ceilings (as in an office building) and storage rooms. the food is small (and wastes half the space because of the way the shelves are laid out).

Oh, and the baseboards/wood trim come together in a way that looks like the MC Escher staircase. You can see more in Bookmark “NotHowYouDoThat” on my Instagram. It was a hot mess. It also has a stained-glass window of a sailboat on the kitchen wall, so it needs to go, too.

We knew we wanted to completely gut the kitchen and start over, but we waited until we worked on all the floors that ran through the main floor so we could demo the kitchen, tile the entire white oak floor, and then put the kitchen back together on top.

When redoing the kitchen, the only things we kept were the windows and marble windowsills below. The ceiling was removed to reveal an orange metal ceiling underneath (!!), but we also removed that and replaced with drywall to add more height in the space.

I have the white shaker style cabinet door paired with the flat front drawers for a trendy yet timeless and functional look. these drawer handles and drag to add a little gold. I don’t usually shop for hardware for every location in the house, but I usually do for the kitchen.

The handles are the most used and when I buy the cheaper gold/brass options they always start to tarnish after only a year or so. I like to start with something of good quality and use them for the long term.

We also added a double sink with a 60/40 . split so we have a larger area to wash dishes and a space to dry what we wash by hand throughout the day. I also have this faucet to keep the yellow color going and I love that it also has a pull-down feature.

I used quartz in our last kitchen and was really happy with it, so I chose again in this model.

For the “real” cell backlash, I chose Beautiful star and cross pattern from Fireclay (Elsie has the same model in her office coffee shop) and I love how it adds a subtle texture to the space without being overwhelming.

The bricks are handmade, so they’re all a little different, which also gives the backlash an organic feel.

For our devices, I have dreaming Been getting Café appliances since I saw them hit the market a few years ago and I’m so glad we decided to use them for our kitchen.

This is the fourth home we’ve lived in, and I’ve actually never had a new kitchen appliance in any home before, so I was happy to actually pick out what I wanted.

Not just ours coffee dishwasher, French door refrigerator, and gas stove nice, but we love using them — you can connect them to your phone, so we can warm up the oven before we get home, and little things like that make it all the more luxurious .

My husband gave me suitable for Cafe toaster last year for Mother’s Day and their beautiful coffee machine complete set.

We also replaced the pantry with a slightly taller one and had deep drawers and shelves placed throughout to really maximize pantry space, which also helps a lot in life. daily.

I bought same light fixture from our last kitchen and I feel it goes well with this room too.

Pink velvet party in the kitchen

It took me almost a year to get this velvet pink banquette built into the space and although it’s one of the more elaborate DIYs I’ve completed, I really love it and it makes the area all the more special.

I hung up this weird print via one of my favorite artists above the seat and added These beautiful wall lights to both sides. The kitchen doesn’t really have a lot of light other than the giant cans on the ceiling that drop down, so I really wanted to add more layers of light through the room.

I added cabinet-mounted lights, spotlights on the ceiling, a flat mount in the center of the room, and a sconce on the wall so we could turn on/dim areas of light as needed. So. A lot of. Better.

I changed the twine on this cute hanging tree switched to a white cord to match the kitchen better, but I would have liked to have some permanent greenery in the space. And since it’s a fake I don’t need to water it (which is a plus for its location).

I have a small bistro table (same here) and it’s the perfect size for a snack or breakfast. It gets used a lot by my daughter to color while I prepare dinner when she wants to be around.

kitchen wall calendar

To keep our little family life organized, I This custom calendar To hang in the kitchen and I love it. It’s a great way to keep track of appointments and events, and its central location means I see it often so I don’t forget what’s about to happen to everyone.

I also like that even though it’s big, I took it in a lighter color and used lighter colored markers—So even when filled with writing, it doesn’t stand out in a negative space.

I also added some black and white family photos at the top of the stairs as you can also see it from the kitchen (same gold frame here). Here are three of my favorite photos.

Star rug in the kitchen

I had the hardest time finding a rug that would fit this room. Initially, I wanted something with color to add another touch to the space, but most flat woven rugs are not my style (lots of traditional or oriental prints). I was pretty stuck for about nine months until I found it this neutral star rug.

While it didn’t have the pop of color I expected, the neutrals fit perfectly in the room, and the star/constellation pattern matches the backsplash (and makes it a little funnier, too).

The overall feel in this kitchen is completely different from when we first moved in. New white oak floors, higher ceilings, a bright and open feel with light cabinets and countertops, and pale pink in the corner make it all feel so modern, yet cozy. And, the giant windows really stand out as a feature.

It feels like I finally have the kitchen of my dreams on our fourth home since we got married, and if you ask me, it was totally worth the wait! so so. Laura
