Less than a month after easing pandemic restrictions, China has recovered several “zero-Covid” policies in an effort to control the new wave of infections that are breaking out across the country.
Covid-19 infections have been increasing almost every day since late October, and China recently recorded its first coronavirus-related death in months. In response, officials closed businesses, continued a citywide lockdown, and reinstated routine testing requirements.
China stands alone as the only major country still go to extreme lengths to eliminate Covid-19 infections, raising questions about when its economy can fully reopen.
