Philip Morris calls for re-entry to the US
Fourteen years after separating from Altria, Philip Morris International wants to return to the US market — this time as a smoke-free business.
The tobacco giant, which distributes Marlboro cigarettes outside the United States, has an all-cash offer of $16 billion for Match Sweden, a Stockholm-based company that manufactures oral nicotine bags for Zyn. The price is 39% higher than where the target’s stock was trading before the WSJ reported Monday that the two companies were in merger talks.
