This grant will also support Penn Vet’s sample collection to further develop the equine BioPassport through the expansion of the Equine Pharmacology Lab BioBank. Samples from BioBank were analyzed to determine baseline levels of blood-based biomarkers found in seahorses. Once established, these baseline levels can be used to determine if blood samples taken from horses before or after a race are any different from the initial sign of illness or injury. or prohibited substances.
