In this continuing series, we will be looking at U.S.-bred and/or formed athletes taking part this upcoming weekend at the Japan Racing Association tracks, focusing on pedigree and/or performance within sales. Here are the horses of interest for this Saturday run at Niigata Racecourse, which have offspring from several Coolmore stallions, one looking to build a promising debut and the other looking second win in a row. Sunday’s TDN will include four American crossbreeds making their respective first trips to the races:

1-NII, 9,900,000 ($74k)Maiden, 2yo, 2000mT
PSY BREAKER (c, 2, Uncle Mo–Downide Scenario, by Scat Daddy), a coveted September purchase by Keeneland of $400,000, gives a great account of how he covered this distance in Fukushima on July 10, running on a whirlwind. silver to be defeated for half the duration to seconds. The March 30 pony is a half-brother with ‘Rising star TDN’ Mutasaabeq (Into Mischief), and his dam – who was acquired for $250,000 carrying the pony that would become Mutasaabeq at Keeneland in January 2018 – were resold to Stonestreet for 1.15 million dollars back on the horse for Into Mischief at Keeneland last November. Downside Scenario is a half-sister to Cool Cowboy (Kodiak Kowboy), a two-time Team 3 winning sprinter in Dubai. B-BlackRidge Stables LLC (KY)

9-NII, 30,400,000 ($229k)Allowance, 2yo, 1400mT
ADVANCE PHAROAH (c, 2, American pharoah–Fair Huntress, by Tiznow) debuted with a sound runner-up attempt over 1400 meters above ground in Tokyo on June 19, but cut short for an excellent graduation of more than 1150 meters at Fukushima last time on July 17 (see below, SC 10 ). The $140,000 KEESEP aspirant has grounds to bring to this new surface, as his unmarked smasher is a half-sister to the level III winner Devil By Design (Medaglia d’Oro), who produced GI American Oaks heroine Competitionofideas (Sightstown); and the winner of the bet Kolo (Dynaformer).
