Peter Coshan: Body found in search for missing retired teacher in Edinburgh


Police investigating the murder of a 75-year-old retired teacher from Sir Tony Blair’s alma mater have found the body of a man.

Dr Peter Coshan, who was a biology teacher at a private school in Edinburgh before retiring, was last seen on 11 August in the Seafield Road area of ​​Leith in the Scottish capital.

Crime scene officers found the body of a man on an A696 near the village of Kirkwhelpington in Northumberland today.

The body has yet to be officially identified but Coshan’s family has been notified.

Two men have been charged with the murder of Mr. Coshan.

Paul Black, 63, also known as Joseph Hillary, and Paul McNaughton, 27, both appeared in court on charges of Mr Coshan’s murder.

Black and McNaughton appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff’s Court on August 18, with the pair also charged with attempting to defeat the ends of justice and theft.

Police began searching the wooded area between Kirkwhelpington and Belsay in the north of England earlier this week in search of the body of a retired teacher.

Between 1972 and 2005, Mr. Coshan taught at the famous Fettes College.  He began teaching at the prestigious school a year after former Prime Minister Tony Blair attended the school from 1966 to 1971.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Patrick, of Police Scotland’s major investigation team, said: ‘Our thoughts remain with Peter’s family at this extremely difficult time and we are continuing to support them. .

‘I would like to take the opportunity to pass on our thanks to everyone who provided information that helped with our investigation.’
