PETA Condemns the Death of Horses on the set of Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power
A horse involved in production The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power died on the set of the series in the UK recently. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the horse passed away on March 21 from cardiac arrest.
Share sad news, Amazon The studio released a statement that read: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a production horse has died. The incident occurred in the morning while the horse was being exercised before rehearsal. The trainer was not in costume and filming had not yet begun.Both a veterinarian and a representative from the Humane Society of the United States were present at the time.An independent post-mortem examination has confirmed. that the horse died of heart failure.”
The horse was one of about 30 on set that day, all provided by respected costume supplier The Devil’s Horsemen, which has supplied horses for many shows including Game of Thrones.
Apparently, this is the first on-set animal death in the company’s 50-year history, the horse is said to have had no prior health problems and was standing among 20 other horses before die.
Animal rights organization PETA condemn the death of the horse. The organization called on the studio to “stop ruling over animals.”
“It seems that living underground with Orcs is normal for the makers of The Rings of Power because they have the option to use CGI, mechanical equipment, and other humane methods to not make the people die. the horse was easily injured to death on set.” Senior Vice President Lisa Lange said. “PETA is calling on the show’s creators – and all other producers – to take on a new mission without using any real horses. If they can’t avoid exploiting animals for art their own, they should find a new medium, because no one wants to watch a TV spin-off with a theme of suffering.”
The Rings of Power has been filming the second season for months in the UK and has announced many new actors will be joining the series. Eight episodes of the first season were released last spring and quickly became streamers’ most-watched original series, reaching over 24 billion minutes of streaming.
