Perpetual wins NCAA men’s beach volley crown; Letran rules women’s side
MANILA, Philippines—Perpetual Help completed a flawless campaign by winning the NCAA season 98 men’s beach volleyball championship on Saturday in Subic.
Altas finished the season 11-0 after knocking out defending champion Emilio Aguinaldo College in the final, 21-13, 15-21, 15-13.
MVPs Jefferson Marapoc and Louie Ramirez overcame their biggest test yet, winning despite committing 16 fouls against the Generals.
Perpetual Help knocked out San Beda, number 4, 21-18, 21-11, in the Final Four. Meanwhile, EAC knocked out Arellano, 21-15, 18-21, 18-16, in their semi-final.
Altas’ Macky Cariño was named Coach of the Year.
However, Perpetual Help failed to celebrate the doubles after Lady Altas was defeated by Letran, 21-17, 21-12, in the women’s final.
Parallel MVP Chamberlaine Cuñada and Lady Knights Lara Mae Silva took a 6-0 lead in the second set that removed the fighting from Lady Altas.
Perpetual Help won its first 10 games before faltering in the biggest game of the season.
Letran’s Mike Inofrio was hailed as Coach of the Year.
