Peloton Row is a smart rowing machine that costs $3,195

Peloton today is its announcement long awaited entry Enter the smart meter market with Peloton Row. Like the company’s other products, the Row is a smart rowing machine with a 23-inch HD display so you can watch live classes. The company is making a lot of noise about a high-end hardware that promises better customizability than the competition.

Row is belt-driven, like its ostensibly rival in this space, Hydrow, has a similar silhouette. That provides a fine-grained, electronically controlled drag – as opposed to the broader resistance you’ll find on air rowers, where Concept2 offer a gold standard. Peloton also says that Row can provide individually calibrated on-screen feedback on your form as you line up.

(This is something I’m particularly interested in when I’m exploring myself, as my usual form issues have more to do with turning my back than the way I pull the leash. Unless there’s some sort of thing. Peloton Guide-esque computer vision tools the company hasn’t mentioned in Row’s press release can identify real-world problems. Speaking of which, Guide will also get an update this week to include rep tracking.)

You’ll also get personalized speed goals to help you gauge what your instructor is yelling at you through the screen. Not to mention a bunch of data will be updated on you every row, giving you performance metrics that will help you improve in the future. (The rulers, if nothing else, are enthusiasts looking for some good data.)

Of course, like most home gym equipment these days, the Peloton is also creating the big problem that you can stack this thing vertically. And it brings in a host of new instructors, with a range of pre-recorded classes available on demand, while in-person classes will begin in 2023. Also, like the products. another Peloton, you can rotate the screen to train with free weights or any other class of your choice.

For the price, Peloton is asking $3,195, plus cost monthly membership $44 per month for all content. The company has yet to mention if Row will join its rental programthough it’s likely that an initial wave of equipment will be needed to serve the needs of those who have been waiting for Peloton to enter the world of sailing for some time.
