Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Suffers Throat Damage From Europe’s Wildfires

The band Pearl Jam canceled a show in Vienna on Wednesday, saying the heat and smoke from bushfires across Europe had hurt the throat of lead singer, Eddie Vedder, at one performance. Outdoors in Paris.

“He has seen a doctor and is being treated, but his vocal cords have not recovered yet,” the band said of Mr. Vedder, 57, in a statement posted to its official website and Twitter account. “This is brutal news and appalling times.”

The band is scheduled to play two more shows in Amsterdam on Sunday and Monday to wrap up Europe tour. North American screenings are scheduled to begin in September.

Jonathan Porter, chief meteorologist at private forecasting firm AccuWeather, said above-average temperatures are forecast to continue this week in southern and eastern parts of Europe.
