PBA: With KJ McDaniels now in tow, Meralco picks up tough win vs Bay Area

MANILA, Philippines — Desperate to turn fortunes with a new weapon, Meralco edged the Bay Area, 92-89, at the PBA Commissioners Cup Friday afternoon.

Unmanned Bolts — now led by veterans Enter PBA KJ McDaniels—Going out the stops needed in time to get just the second win in seven midseason conference opening games.

“This is a tough win for us – which we talked about. But anything can always happen, right? Even with all the adversities we are facing right now,” said head Norman Black.

“When KJ came, we thought we were getting some fresh air and he was going to give us a chance to win,” he added.

McDaniels finished with 31 points to lead all of Meralco. Raymond Almazan had 14 points and 16 rebounds, while Allein Maliksi, Chris Banchero and Bong Quinto also finished in the scoring attempt.

Bay Area receive goods from Andrew Nicholson, who accounted for more than half of the team’s output with 50 points. Kobey Lam added 23 goals as the visitors suffered their second loss of the tournament, dropping it 6-2.

Meralco hopes to get a 3-5 Blackwater game a week from now at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

The Bay Area, meanwhile, is hoping to get back on track playing 3-4 Rain or Shine in the foiser of that same game.
