MANILA, Philippines – TNT banded together at key moments on Wednesday to hold Phoenix at 123-119, to a commendable start to the PBA Governors’ Cup.

Import Jalen Hudson starred for Tropang Giga, scoring 34 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in a win at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.

Calvin Oftana led the locals with 17 points coming on from the bench, as Roger Pogoy, Kelly Williams and rookie Justin Chua all scored double-digits to help Jojo Lastimosa win their first win as the the club’s interim head coach.

Chot Reyes, who took a step back to focus on Gilas Pilipinas, was also present.

Phoenix got the goods on import back to Du’Vaughn Maxwell, who scored 21 points and 19 rebounds with 5 assists.

Jason Perkins took 20 points, while Tyler Tio, RR Garcia and Encho Serrano each scored at least 12 in what initially looked to be a brave position against a TNT crew without a defensive big Poy Erram.

TNT’s next match is 0-1 Rain or Shine, which takes place this Friday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Meanwhile, Phoenix hopes to beat Blackwater 0-1 in that first double header.
