MANILA, Philippines – Japeth Aguilar reinvigorated his calves during Ginebra’s 95-84 win over Meralco in the final 4 of the PBA Governors Cup on Good Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra coach Tim Cone said in his post-match interview that the 35-year-old had exacerbated his injury after playing for 10 minutes and 37 seconds and failing to score, missing three shot and won a rebound in the match. chain-force victory.

He was subbed out in the middle of the fourth quarter.

“Japeth had to leave the game. I didn’t take him out because he started to feel the injury in his calf. I don’t know how badly he re-injured but once he was out the coaches told me he was out of the game,” Cone said. “I don’t know how bad it is but it’s always a risk of injury.”

It was the return of the defending Finals MVP since Game 1 of their semi-final series against NLEX, where he suffered a calf injury.

Cone took responsibility after Aguilar injured his calf again.

“We are really trying to be careful not to overplay him. I only played with him three or four minutes in the first half. I saw him tired in the second half but we ran away, I didn’t have the discipline to knock him out, I should have had more discipline to take him out,” he said. “If he gets that injury again, it’s on me.”

Cone still does not know the severity of the striker’s injury but he said Aguilar will be the decider in Game 5 this Sunday.

He praised Aguilar’s presence inside the pitch after it helped Ginebra equalize the series.

“He came out and played when we really needed him. You can see his impact on the floor. Defensive and offensive effects. We really need him to do what he did tonight. I hope that doesn’t sacrifice anything for him in the future,” he said on Aguilar, who added 10 in Game 4.
