MANILA, Philippines–Terrafirma overcame the NLEX with a 124-114 win in extra time on Friday afternoon to finally end a horrendous losing streak since the last PBA season.
Import Lester Prosper dropped 50 points, 19 rebounds and 5 assists, helping Dyip slip 25 games at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao.
“We finally broke the curse,” said coach Johenedel Cardel, who breathed a sigh of relief before stepping onto the podium during his post-match press conference.
Terrafirma actually averted disaster, stopping a desperate nemesis in the NLEX who was also eager to get out of the four-game slip and lead by 17 points in the competition.
Having been knocked out of the knockout stages, Dyip still scored an important win that will help bolster the club’s confidence in terms of its resident imports.
“(This) means a lot to morale. We got a hit. In the previous games we lost, but we fought. But in the third quarter, we tend to be indecisive,” Prosper said.
“Now we will come together. I’m glad we were able to stop this fun we’re getting into,” he added.
Juami Tiongson took 18 points, Eric Camson 15, while Gelo Allolino 10 as the club improved to 1-9 in the mid-season showcase.
NLEX received supplies from reinforcements Earl Clark, who had 45 points. Don Trollano has 26, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser 22, while Kris Rosales has 12 more as the team mentored by Frankie Lim drops to 3-7.
Terrafirma, whose final win over Blackwater on February 12, 2022, will face San Miguel next. Dyip then ended their campaign against Phoenix.
Meanwhile, next to NLEX is Barangay Ginebra and then Meralco.
