MANILA, Philippines-San Miguel Beer registered yet another arbitrage at the PBA Governors’ Cup after ensuring that Blackwater would not cause another upset with Wednesday’s 105-86 victory at Philsports Arena in City of Pasig.
Five players led by Jericho Cruz and imported Cameron Clark scored twice as many goals as the Beermen relied on another fierce attack in the first half to take a 2-0 lead in the season-ending conference under their new coach, Jorge Gallent.
“We’re playing well because they’re defending well,” said Gallent, whose team beat Phoenix 114-93 three nights before the start of the campaign. “I think our offense goes up because of our defense.”
Cruz came on from the bench to score 22 points while Clark had 14 of his 20 points in the first half, giving the Beermen a 30-point lead before entering the dressing room 63-38.
In June, Mar Fajardo added 17 points, including a rare treble, while also winning 16 rebounds and making four assists for the Beermen.
Blackwater fell 1-2 as it failed to repeat the shock win over the previously unbeaten Meralco last Saturday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Import Shawn Glover has scored 16 points and 12 rebounds but the key players in Bossing’s recent game have struggled.
One of them was Baser Amer, who only got four points when he shot 2/6.
