MANILA, Philippines-Phoenix knocked out Meralco, 100-93, in their PBA On Tour match, a match that wouldn’t have ended without a challenge between Raul Soyud and Raymar Jose in the final seconds of Sunday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Elbows flew after Soyud recovered defensively with 8.9 seconds as Fuel Master took a four-point lead before cooler heads quickly intervened.
Soyud and Jose eventually fixed things up shortly after the final whistle, even playfully re-enacting the incident as they flashed a big smile at each other.
Outside of extracurriculars, Soyud had a strong run with 25 points and 13 rebounds as Phoenix won the second straight game in a two-month showdown streak.
RR Garcia has 15 points and 5 assists while Larry Muyang also scored a brace with 13 points and 12 rebounds for the Fuel Masters.
Anjo Caram scored 24 points, including 14 in the third game, but Meralco lost the second game of the series.
Jose scored 9 points and 9 rebounds in 19 minutes for the Bolts.
Norbert Torres came on from the bench to score 11 points in Meralco’s second game on the On Tour since being bought back from Rain or Shine a few weeks ago.
Soyud put Phoenix ahead with a 90-88 lead with more than three minutes left, before the lead was maintained for the rest of the way.
