MANILA, Philippines—Matt Nieto is sure to repay NLEX’s trust, helping the Road Warriors make their exciting debut at the PBA Governors’ Cup on Wednesday.
Nieto had a solid opening with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 124-102 game against Blackwater despite missing some practice sessions with NLEX in preparation for his wedding.
26 year old security Bianca Matanguihan is married on January 19.
“In this match, I really did not let them down. Their trust in me was not in vain. They trust me because they know that when I come back, I will give 100% right away,” Nieto said.
The former Ateneo standout was effective in attack, making five of his six attempts from the pitch, including two-two from long range in the 33 minutes.
“They were all invited to the wedding and I really appreciate them taking the time to prepare for my wedding. I told them I wouldn’t let them down. “Even though I missed a few practice sessions, they still allowed me to do so,” Nieto said.
Nieto also credits coach Frankie Lim for pushing him to be better on and off the court.
“My relationship with coach Frankie is next level. During the off-season we talked a lot and he told me about my mistakes as a point guard. He defines all the roles that I should take on the team,” Nieto said.
“Besides, off the field, Coach Frankie is like my father. I know that he will support me and I will always support him as well.”
