PBA: Meralco ends slide, piles on Terrafirma’s woes

MANILA, Philippines – Meralco secured the win through team effort after defeating Terrafirma, 105-92, on Friday in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Enter Johnny O’Bryant had 31 points and 11 rebounds while Bong Quinito, Allein Maliksi, Aaron Black and Chris Banchero stepped up as Meralco dominated after starting the game with defeats to NorthPort and Barangay Ginebra.

Despite still missing Chris Newsome due to calf strain, Bolts can still continue to disappoint against Dyip, who not only fell 0-4 but also suffered their 20th consecutive defeat since the 2021-22 Governors Cup .

“We thought our attack was a bit all over the place in the first half, but when there was more airflow we were able to take offensive action,” said assistant Luigi Trillo, who again play the role of beater after the coach, said. Norman Black has been incorporated into health and safety protocols.

Quinto scored eight of his 17 points in the fourth inning, helping O’Bryant on the offensive side as Meralco led with a high of 14 from 10 games and 19 changes to the lead.

Maliksi and Black added 18 and 17 points, Banchero added 12 points, five rebounds, seven assists and three steals and Raymond Almazan scored eight points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

Import Lester Prosper was the only bright spot again for Terrafirma with 35 points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
