MANILA, Philippines—Justin Brownlee and LA Tenorio took turns throughout the night to power Barangay Ginebra past Magnolia, 103-80, and claim control of the best semi-final series of their five PBA Commissioners Cup games. on Sunday night at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Brownlee poured in all his 38 points in the second half, while Tenorio scattered most of his 20 points in the last two frames to give the Gin Kings a 2-1 lead.
“It’s just a column win, it doesn’t give you any pogi points to go into the next game. We know we have to play better next game. We didn’t want to go to Game 5, because a lot could happen in Game 5,” said head coach Tim Cone.
“I came with the desire to be aggressive and efficient,” added Brownlee, who added nine rebounds and seven assists, and the best scoring record on the team that took him. He became a teammate of an elite cast.
The Gin Kings’ favorite reinforcements, who are nearing completion of their Philippine citizenship attempt, have become the fifth importer in league history to hit 5,000 career points after Norman Black, Bobby Parks, Sean Chambers and the late Lee Massey.
Magnolia, who was without hero Paul Lee in Game 2 due to flu-like symptoms, was scored 16 points by Jio Jalalon. Nick Rakocevic imports were only held at 10 points as Aris Dionisio and Adrian Wong tried to fill the gap in production with 10 points each.
Barangay Ginebra will compete this Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
