ANTIPOLO—Despite narrowing to the highest score of his career, Juami Tiongson downplayed his scoring boom in Terrafirma’s win over Meralco in the PBA Governors’ Cup, saying it was all down to team effort.

Tiongson refuses to take all credit after finishing with 30 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal Dyip’s 96-88 victory over the formerly undefeated Bolts at Ynares Sports Center on Saturday.

“I don’t take any credit for myself because it’s always about the team. I think they’re just looking for me, especially when I take my shots early,” the guard said.

“Kuya Alex (Cabagnot), Jordan (Williams), Eric (Camson), they all told me ‘open up, we’ll look for you’, so I wouldn’t have done it without it. everyone. It was a collective effort, he added.

Tiongson is a point away from his column 31 best career markers in their win over Ginebra in September 2021.

The player shot from 50 percent range, sinking seven of his 15 shots, including six trebles.

Cabagnot commended the 5-foot-10 marksman’s performance in the backyard with eight markers and seven coins.

Winning coach Johnedel Cardel also acknowledged the gunman’s sweet performance, saying he did not doubt his shooting ability.

He also said that he believes Tiongson will continue to shoot even if his form drops. Cardel claims he’s “different” and can get his rhythm started in no time.

“When you are unlucky, you are unlucky but he is different. He knows that. I just told him to be ready,” Cardel said in Filipino.

In Dyip’s first two games, the young keeper averaged 24.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game built on a 60.0% efficiency rate from 3 point area.

Terrafirma will resume the PBA Governors’ Cup against San Miguel on Friday at the same venue.
