MANILA, Philippines — Japeth Aguilar put on his kit on Friday night, but for the second time in a row, he sat on the bench and just watched Barangay Ginebra hold off Meralco, 99-93, and draw the Cup Finals. Governor of the PBA with a score of 1 to 1.
Gin Kings who is jumping high forward says he is still taking time to recover but remains hopeful that he can rejoin the team when two clubs break the bond on Sunday again at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“Continually heal it,” Aguilar said of his calf injury. “We were just really trying to buy a little more time.”
“We’ll see,” he added of Sunday’s game. “Tomorrow is another chance for me to get in shape and get back in shape.”
Aguilar hurts his calves in Game 1 of Ginebra’s semi-final series against NLEXand has been rescheduled since then for a total of five matches.
Head coach Tim Cone said Aguilar could fit in “maybe Sunday, but if it’s likely to happen, it will be Wednesday. He needs a few more days, it seems to me.”
Whether or not he fits in sooner, Aguilar is sure of one thing: that he will give one hundred percent to helping Ginebra successfully defend his title during the season-end showcase.
“If I can play, I will try my best,” he said. “I wouldn’t think about (injury), because the more you think about it, [the more you get antsy]. ”
“I will try to do my best to be able to give the other players a short break,” he added.
