PBA: Bay Area comes back to beat Phoenix for 3-0 start
MANILA, Philippines — The Bay Area Dragons visiting team overcame a massive first-half deficit and another heated exchange to beat Phoenix Fuel Masters, 101-91, on Saturday and a 3-0 record at PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After a 17-0 defeat in the second half, the Dragons came back from a 41-25 deficit and controlled the rest to continue their impressive streak as a guest in the mid-season conference.
“I thought between the second half and the rest of the game, I think we did a good job defending and locking them down. Dragons coach Brian Goorjian said.
Myles Powell got off to a slow start and finished with 32 points for the Bay Area, the first team to play after the East Asian Super League announced earlier this week that the inaugural season’s scheduled start time had been postponed. again.
Powell also had a heated exchange with Phoenix coach Topex Robinson, who had to hold back after trying to confront the 6-foot-2 import late in the third quarter.
Cooler heads prevailed and both Powell and Robinson ended up embracing it late in the game.
Javee Mocon’s 22 points and Tyler Tio’s 21 points were the positive few in the loss that sent Phoenix reeling with a 0-3 record.
