Coach Aldin Ayo did not want to focus on the situation surrounding the contract negotiations between Maverick Ahanmisi and the Converge management.
FiberXers have started their time on the PBA On Tour with the exception of Ahanmisi, whose contract is up after a great campaign in the end-of-season Governors Cup, and Ayo said he’ll let management handle things.
“I just let the management handle it,” Ayo said in Filipino after Converge .’s 119-82 victory via Terrafirma on Friday at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City,
“We are busy with practice and preparation [for the PBA’s 48th season in October]but hopefully things can be worked out,” added the FiberXers mentor.
Ahanmisi probably had his best conference yet since entering the league in 2015-16, averaging 19.9 points on 47% shots with 6.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.2 steals in the near Governors Cup This.
Many feel that Ahanmisi deserves a place in All-Star Game PBA in Passi City, Iloilo last March, but did not attract enough votes from fans.
He also cites Ayo’s trust in him as one of the reasons for his improved performance in the third tournament.
He might want Ahanmisi for the series as much, but Ayo is setting a high price for those on the FiberXers roster.
“Our focus is on working with the people who are here,” he said.
