MANILA, Philippines—Cavitex exacted revenge on Platinum Karaoke, scoring a 21-13 win over the wire to claim the stage title in Sunday’s PBA 3×3 Second Conference Season 2 at Robinsons Place Novaliches.
The Braves soon set the tone of the Stage 5 final after the guns of Dominick Fajardo and Chester Saldua, who took turns giving the team a 10-2 lead after just four minutes of the game.
Platinum never recovered from a slow start as the Braves never gave up and won their first championship of P100,000 at this convention.
Fajardo led Cavitex by 9 points, Saldua by 7 and Jorey Napoles by 5, including the game-defining goal with plenty of time to spare.
Tzaddy Rangel completed the Braves championship quartet coached by Emman Monfort.
The victory avenged the Braves’ close 13-12 loss to Platinum Karaoke in the Stage 4 final a week ago. It also ended the team’s runner-up record in the previous two matches.
Platinum Karaoke each received four points from Raphael Banal, Yutien Andrada and Yves Sazon, while top shooter Terrence Tumalip was held for one point from shooting 1/5 from the field.
In second place, Platinum Karaoke received P50,000.
Meanwhile, Pioneer Elastoseal earned its first podium spot this season, beating Barangay Ginebra in a third-place match, 17-14.
Team Katibays have gone home with a best of P30,000 to date since placing fourth in Stage 5 of the First Conference.
On the way to the top, Cavitex knocked out Blackwater in the quarterfinals 16-12 and Pioneer Elastoseal 22-14 in the semifinals.
Platinum, on the other hand, knocked out Meralco (17-15) and Barangay Ginebra (November 21) to arrange a rematch with the Braves.
