Paul Stephens AutoArt 993R gives a refined look to the Porsche 911

There’s a newly remodeled Porsche 911 in town. UK-based Porsche specialist Paul Stephens on Tuesday unveiled the AutoArt 993R, a new styling built from the 993-generation 911.

While some models feature extensive modifications, a press release by Paul Stephens says the company has taken a “less is more” approach to this vehicle. The original customer request was to improve the base 993 Carrera 2 by 25% in all areas.

For the six-cylinder engine, that means expanding displacement from 3.6 liters to 3.8 liters and adding new internals, including the crankshaft from the 997 911 GT3. The result is 330 hp (360 hp option is also available) and 265 lb-ft of torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. The original engine made 270 hp.

Weight has also been reduced from 3,020 lb to 2,689 lb (with liquids), giving the 993R a power-to-weight ratio comparable to that of the 996 911 GT3, according to the company, though it hasn’t released numbers, according to the company. performance data.

To help reduce weight, Paul Stephens removed the antique sunroof and rear wiper mechanism, and swapped out the original front roof for an aluminum version, the latter saving 17 lb. The composite engine cover and new front and rear bumpers save 17 lb. and 19.8 lb, respectively.

Efforts to reduce weight continue with the interior. Paul Stephens has removed many components, including the center console, glove box, audio system, power windows, central locking and airbags. Air conditioning and spare seats have been replaced with lighter weight versions, and a roll cage is fitted.

Stopping power is provided by steel calipers and rotors from the 993-generation 911 RS. Since the 993R is primarily a road car, carbon-ceramic brakes are considered unnecessary, according to the company. It also gets five-way adjustable suspension and 18-inch 996 GT3 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

If you like what you see, Paul Stephens is accepting orders for other 993R builds for an undisclosed price. The company also worked on earlier air-cooled 911 models, including the 964.

Paul Stephens isn’t the only company specializing in Porsche 911 rebuilds. Based in California Gunther Werks was famous for 993 restomod, while Singer premium build based on older 964 generation.
