Pau Gasol ‘explores a potential role’ with Warriors

One great thing about the Los Angeles Lakers could be pulling a Jerry West and defecting from the Lakers to the Golden State Warriors.

Retired two-time NBA champion Pau Gasol recently guested on the podcast “The Old Man and the Three” by JJ Redick and revealed that he had been chatting with the Warriors about a potential job.

“I am exploring a potential role with a team,” says Gasol. “I was a little out of reach for the Warriors, and they opened the door for me to come in and do meetings, meet the boys a little bit and talk to some of them. It’s great and I’ll probably do it more and more as I move on. ”

However, the 42-year-old added that he is in no hurry to get hired and wants to take his time to see what works best for him.

Gasol, who announced his retirement from professional basketball last October, is a famous former Laker player. He was an integral part of LA’s 2009 and 2010 championship teams and also had six All-Star teams plus four All-NBA teams during his NBA career.

While Gasol doesn’t have much of a connection with the Warriors organization, Golden State assistant Mike Brown served as Gasol’s head coach with the Lakers. Gasol have also appreciated Warriors for many years now. It’s currently unclear what Gasol’s possible role in Golden State would be, but his championship pedigree would make a powerful addition to any organization.
