Marleau has spent almost his entire career with the San Jose Sharks after being picked up by the franchise of choice with a second overall pick in 1997. The 42-year-old’s first term with the club lasted. to the 2016-17 season before he signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 2017. He was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes in June 2019, re-signed with the Sharks in October 2019, traded with the Pittsburgh Penguins in February 2020 and eventually signed back to his original team in October 2020.
Marleau played 56 games for the Sharks between 2020-21, scoring 4 goals and 5 assists in his final active season. He has led the NHL in games played four times and appeared in all 82 regular season competitions, a whopping 11 times.
An Aneroid, Saskatchewan native, Marleau broke Hall-of-Famer Gordie Howe’s record of 1,767 games played as of April 20, 2021. Marleau is the Sharks’ all-time leader in goalscoring (522) , points (1,111), number of games played (1,607 goals, goals in power play (163), goals in short hand (17) and goals in the game (101).
He also won a pair of Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014 and won the World Championship with Team Canada in 2003 and the World Cup championship in 2004. Marleau is a three-time All-Star champion. and twice nominated for Female Byng Trophy.
