Patrick Mahomes broke the record in 2020 when he signed 10 year contract extension with Chief of Kansas City worth $45 million per year. But three defenders – Aaron Rodgers, Kyler Murray and Deshaun Watson – have signed contracts this year worth more annually than Mahomes’ deal.
On Friday, Mahomes said he doesn’t mind being no longer at the top of the highest-paid list.
Among the players who could soon get deals that also pass Mahomes’ renewal are Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens, Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos.
In addition to his big contract – which could be worth more than 500 million dollars if Mahomes hits all of its incentives – the 26-year-old Chiefs quarterback has endorsement deals with a number of companies, including Adidas, State Farm and DirecTV. In July 2020, Mahomes become a minority owner of MLB’s Kansas City Royals.
Mahomes reached the Pro Bowl four times over the years as Kansas City’s starting quarterback and had 18,991 crosses and 151 touchdown passes. He also threw 28 touchdowns in the playoffs and led the Captain to victory in Super Bowl LIV.
