What is an Immersive Cinema Experience (ICE)?
The new ICE format promises to immerse viewers in an enhanced and improved viewing experience without compromising the film director’s original vision of the film. This involves using colored lighting control panels to add lighting effects that continuously change in harmony with the content on the screen itself. This is visible in the viewer’s peripheral vision and does not distract from the content on the screen, but complements it by reducing the amount of dark space around the screen.
Globally, movies like Doctor Strange in the Mad Multiverse and Batman was released in this format. Pathaan is the first Indian film to support the ICE format and viewers will be able to take advantage of the format in supported theaters. As of now, only two theaters in India support the ICE format, both in the Delhi-NCR region. PVR Ambience in Gurgaon and PVR Promenade at Vasant Kunj are ICE enabled and will show Pathaan in the format in action.
What is IMAX?
Viewers can also choose to watch Pathaan in the much more popular and popular IMAX format. Short for Image Maximum, IMAX screens are available across theaters in India covering many cities and regions, and Pathaan will be shown in this format on supported screens.
At its core, IMAX is a proprietary system that combines the use of high-resolution cameras, film formats, projectors and cinemas with a high aspect ratio display. This ratio is typically 1.43:1 or 1.90:1, depending on location and screen size, but tends to vary widely. This also often involves steeper seating arrangements and the whole experience being intended to be more cinematic and immersive than conventional theatre.
