Part of Twitter’s source code was apparently leaked by a disgruntled programmer
Court filings have revealed that part of Twitter’s source code has been leaked online for some time and is hosted on the popular Github code repository.
according to New York Times (opens in a new tab) (NYT), Twitter filed a copyright infringement complaint to remove the code the same day.
NYT sources at the company indicate that the individual responsible is a former employee caught up in the incident. fusillade staged by the newest CEO of Twitter, the former richest man in the world and now nasty eccentric Elon Musk, who took over the company October last year for a tear-jerking $44 billion.
Whack-a-mole
It’s not clear how long the leaked code has been public, beyond the size of the leak or what parts of Twitter might be affected.
A company executive speaking to the NYT expressed concern about the new vulnerabilities final point on Twitter and potential Privacy concerns due to threat actors having the ability to access user data.
The company is also worried about the still-unknown identities of former employees, making identification much more difficult since the company has lost 80% of its employees under new leadership.
Following Twitter’s request for a Github takedown, it is said to have also asked the US District Court to order Github to disclose the identity of the leaker and who accessed the code before it was taken down.
Although details are thin, it’s unlikely that this request has gone anywhere, because previous efforts (opens in a new tab) at what? join (opens in a new tab) “court-sanctioned doxxing” calls have failed.
