Parler returns to Google Play store after being removed following US Capitol riots


Parler is returning to the Google Play Store more than a year after being removed by Google following the US Congressional Riots in January 2021. The social media app has become popular with conservatives in the United States. Ky. It was launched in 2018 as an alternative to other social media platforms like Twitter. It has drawn forces from supporters of former US President Donald Trump. However, the Parler app was removed from several major tech platforms due to its failure to monitor the violent content that was blamed for the attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

According to Reuters, Parler the app is being restored on Google Play Store as it is said to have taken some measures to improve its content moderation.

A Google spokesperson said the app now has the option to block abusive users and remove content that could incite violence. The app has been significantly modified to comply with Play Store policies. It appeared online on the Play Store on Friday.

However, Parler did offer Android users a separate version of the app from its website after it was removed from the Play Store.

Parler was also removed from AppleApp Store of after the January 2021 riots. It was then rehibilitate in May of last year.
