Pakistani leader speaks before the United Nations Council: ‘The coldness of a new Cold War’ is enveloping



He expressed “pain and suffering” at the plight of the people in Gaza, saying, “our hearts bleed as we witness the tragedy unfolding in the Holy Land, a tragedy that shakes conscience of humanity”.

“Can we, as humans, be silent as children lie buried under the rubble of their shattered homes?ِ Can we turn a blind eye to those who mother holding the lifeless bodies of their children?” he asked, emphasizing that this was inevitable. not just a conflict but also a “systematic massacre of innocent people”.

He emphasized that it was not enough to condemn the conflict and that there must be immediate action towards a two-state solution based on pre-1967 borders and full membership in the United Nations for Palestine.

If there is no such solution, “[the current conflict] threatens to drag the entire Middle East into a war whose consequences could be serious and unimaginable.”

The Pakistani Prime Minister likened the plight of the Palestinian people to that of the people in Jammu and Kashmir, where they have “fought for a century for their freedom and right to self-determination.”

He emphasized that since August 5, 2019, India had initiated “unilateral illegal steps to impose what its leaders ominously called the ‘Final Solution’ to Jammu and Kashmir” with 900,000 Indian soldiers terrorizing people there through long curfews, extrajudicial killings and sanctions. kidnapped thousands of young Kahmiris.

In response to the “massive expansion of military capabilities that are essentially being deployed against Pakistan,” he asserted that “Pakistan will respond most decisively to any act of aggression by India”.

Turning to the growing impact of climate change, the Prime Minister said that although his country emits less than 1% of global carbon, it has had to pay a very high price, including $30 billion in damage due to catastrophic floods two years ago.

“We must maintain the axiom: the polluter pays!” he declared.

In addition, nearly 100 developing countries are “stuck in a vicious cycle of debt and liquidity crises,” he said, calling this a “death trap” and echoing the Secretary-General’s description of the structure of the debt and liquidity crisis. The international financial architecture is “morally bankrupt”.

“World trade and technology regimes must be reformed and adjusted to promote global development and equity,” he said.

“We must carry with us a message to our people that the weak are not the voiceless, that the oppressed should not lose hope, that poverty is not a given. first and that the Almighty’s promise of justice and equality in our only earthly home must be respected!” he concluded.
