Pakistan Descending Into A “Banana Republic”, Says Imran Khan

Imran Khan says Pakistan is slowly becoming a 'Banana Republic'

Imran Khan also expressed concern about Shahbaz Gill being brought under investigation by the police again.

Islamabad:

On Wednesday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan said Pakistan was “becoming a banana republic” amid controversy surrounding the arrest of Pakistani leader Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shahbaz Gill, whose PTI’s head claims to be a plot against him and his party.

Gill was arrested by police on August 9, after he made controversial statements against the Pakistani army on television that were deemed “extremely hostile and ambitious” by the country’s media. .

A local court on Wednesday approved the two-day relocation of Gill at the request of Islamabad police. The court’s removal of Gill to Islamabad police custody comes after a court denied a police request to extend his two-day detention period.

According to Dawn, the judge also directed the coroner to examine the defendant and submit a report to the court.

Imran Khan’s party has alleged that Gill was tortured in previous police custody and that his life is still at stake.

Imran Khan tweeted along with the video: “Being a banana republic. The civilized world will be shocked at our level of barbarism. The worst part is that an easy target has been chosen as an example. through torture and without a fair trial” Gill was taken to the hospital.

“Meanwhile, people like NS, Maryam, MFR, AZ, all in the worst possible way & continuously attack State institutions through malicious and targeted claims against them. , walked away without a single reprimand,” he said in another tweet.

Meanwhile, PTI, led by Imran Khan’s close assistant, has been transferred to the hospital of Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) because of his health condition.

Imran Khan has expressed concern about Shahbaz Gill being sent back by the police.

“He was in poor mental and physical health from torture when he was kidnapped and taken to an undisclosed location and then back to the police station. This is part in a conspiracy against me and PTI by forcibly receiving false statements against us similar to what they did against social media activists,” he added.

The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) also expressed concern at the court’s decision to put Gill in solitary confinement.

“Any allegation that he was mistreated while in custody should be investigated fairly and transparently,” the committee tweeted.
