Packers cautiously optimistic about Aaron Rodgers return?

That’s largely because Rodgers didn’t immediately board a plane to leave Wisconsin after Green Bay’s disappointing loss to the 49ers last week. Instead, he stayed at the Packers facility and met with head coach Matt LaFleur “and others” to discuss the team’s next steps. Those conversations were clearly positive, leading to a sense of optimism.

As we all know, the Packers are currently predicted to be around $45 million above the limit, and that doesn’t include the ~$20 million card for Adams. However, the team is still anxious to retain its top two offensive weapons for 2022, although they will likely have to part ways with several other key contributors to become limit compliant. The Packers clearly believe that, with Rodgers and Adams, they can make one more Super Bowl win before having to seriously consider rebuilding in 2023.

Of course, Green Bay could accelerate such a rebuild and move towards a new era of competition in no time by trading Rodgers in the coming months. The Broncos, who recently to rent former Packers OC Nathaniel Hackett as head coach, was connected to a potential Rodgers acquisition last season, and when they appeared to be only a quarter of a foot away from the legal contention, many who had expected them to make another run against the 38-year-old in 2022.

Tony Pauline of Professional Football Network heard that there is a very good chance that Denver GM George Paton will, in fact, cut off its deal with Rodgers this year, and Pauline’s sources also say they’re surprised a deal doesn’t materialize by 2021. According to Pauline, the Broncos are also interested in Adams if the star expands to the open market, but with the Packers seem adamant with the Deploying the Franchise Card on Adamsthat doesn’t seem particularly likely at the moment.

The Broncos had multiple picks for the second and third rounds in the 2022 draft, though they only had one pick in the first round (9 total). It’s hard to say what the Packers would ask for in a deal with Rodgers, but a package that included multiple first-round picks seemed like a reasonable starting point in negotiations.
