Overwatch 2’s Battle for Olympus event turns seven heroes into Greek gods today

precaution 2the second season of it all is about greek mythology, with some characters getting skin based on iconic Greek gods. But now that the winter carnival event is over, Overwatch 2 will launch its next limited time event Battle for Mount Olympus later today, and it reimagined the abilities of seven characters. The free-for-all deathmatch mode starts today and will run until January 19.

A recent trailer shows seven playable characters featured alongside their new moves. Junker Queen, Reinhardt, Lucio, Widowmaker, Pharah, Roadhog and Ramattra can all be seen looking for a place in the Greek paradise. What’s most interesting, however, are the glimpses of the remixed possibilities we see throughout, all themed around the Greek gods. For example, Ramattra’s Raging Whirlwind ability often slows enemies down and pulls them to the ground. But once Ramattra puts on a Poseidon costume, the same ability will send enemies off the ground.

Other cool tweaks include Queen Junker’s ultimate ability, which will now rain down thunder with the wrath of Zeus. Speedster Lucio is suitably dressed as Hermes and his Soundwave attack seems to stun enemies in this mode. Meanwhile, Widowmaker looks even more deadly as Medusa as she petrifies her enemies with shots to the head (although the Metal Gear-style exclamation mark above her head is clearly less Greek, if you ask me). Pharah transports her inner Hades and can now move while using her ultimate. Reinhardt rushes into battle as a Minotaur (regardless of some special events some might say), so it makes sense for him to take that position here. His ultimate can now also pierce objects. Roadhog, on the other hand, used up Cyclops, and can be seen his ultimate firing large, slow projectiles rather than the salvo he usually prefers.

Blizzard says that we can expect a global leaderboard that will tally the number of individual hero removals at some point. The hero with the most eliminations will receive a statue on the Ilios map. The first few limited time events for OW2 have dropped a bit, so hopefully the community driven rewards will make the event even more fun.

by Ollie Impressions of Season 2 was mixed up a bit when it came out. He’s particularly impressed with the season’s new hero Ramattra, despite saying that, “he looks (and seems) at the same time stern, majestic, mysterious, and terrifying.” However, the balance changes are “quite impressive”.
