Overwatch 2 status update: Blizzard makes changes to SMS requests, fixes bugs

An Overwatch 2 community manager took to the game’s official forums to share Overwatch 2 status update. The post outlines some of the players’ biggest concerns with the game chaotic startas well as outlining how Blizzard intends to address these issues.

The first problem the post solved was Overwatch 2SMS’s request. Prior to the update, all Overwatch 2 players were required to connect their phones to their Battle.net accounts in an effort to hold individuals more accountable for fraudulent or bad behavior. However, after many players expressed frustration with the system and criticized it as exclusionary, Blizzard removed the policy against existing players.

Now playing: Overwatch 2 – Everything you need to know

“The majority of our console community (players who already have Overwatch connected to their Battle.net accounts, including any console players who have played since June 9, 2021) no longer need to respond meet the requirements of SMS Protect as well,” Blizzard wrote. “Any PC player who played the original Overwatch has this requirement removed.”

The post then mentions the server outage yesterday, stating that they were necessary for two reasons: one, to resolve errors related to account merging and logins, and two, to upgrade the game’s database. Blizzard added that because of these shutdowns, it can quadruple server capacity and reduce login queues. Early signs suggest that Overwatch 2’s servers are much stronger than before, although Blizzard has written that this weekend will be the game’s “biggest ever test”.

For those who are dealing with issues related to merging their accounts (including their Overwatch collection not successfully transferring to Overwatch 2), Blizzard has solidified that skins and other cosmetics Yours is not lost and they are continuing to work to resolve the issue. Thankfully, yesterday’s database upgrades should help speed up the process.

The post then addresses several other errors and warns players that they may see matchmaking times increase before thanking their patience.

“We understand that the launch experience has been frustrating for many in our community. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your support. We are focused on making improvements. improve the Overwatch 2 experience for all players.”
