Overwatch 2 short animation introduces Kiriko, one of the sequel’s new heroes

No actively updated Overwatch game means no Overwatch animated shorts in recent years. The current Overwatch 2 Now live, there’s a new nine-minute animated short introducing the hero Kiriko, one of the new free-to-play sequels. You can view it below.

I’ve always thought Overwatch’s cartoon shorts paled in comparison to Team Fortress 2’s equivalents, especially in their writing, but the above is pretty decent. I was enjoying the righteous beating when it happened, and the rest was incredibly sweet.

Kiriko is one of Overwatch 2’s new heroes and as such, you’ll have to unlock her through its new battle pass system. You might want to do that too, as Kiriko is currently at the top of the game’s meta. She is very versatile, she works as both a healer and a DPS class, and for that reason Ollie ranked her an S in Overwatch 2 tier list.

Since Kiriko is part of the Battle Pass, that means you need to reach level 55 or spend money to unlock the “premium” Battle Pass. Getting to level 55 will probably take you 3-4 weeks, if you do absolutely everything you can while sharpening every day – and possibly longer, if you have other things to do besides sharpening in Overwatch 2 We’ve got a guide on how to unlock heroes in Overwatch 2 and more how to level up fastif you are so inclined.

Does this spend and honing story spoil the fun and cute story of intergenerational collaboration in the animated short above? Right. That’s right, but Overwatch 2 is a free-to-play game, and so the characters are what you buy right now, one way or another.
