Overwatch 2 – Mercy Hero Guide

Overwatch 2 revived the hero shooter bringing a lot of new players to the game. While some will be drawn in by new heroes and New game mode Push, new and returning players will also want to try out some of the older heroes. That includes Mercy, a support character. Mercy is a great character for players new to the game and easily becomes one of the best healers in the game. Here’s how to maximize your healing as Mercy.

Mercy overview

Mercy is a support champion that focuses almost entirely on healing. While healing is the main focus of all supports, Mercy offers one of the highest healings, with the trade-off that she deals very little damage. Equipped with a healer that can connect to allies to give them healing or damage boosts, depending on what type of character you want at the moment. You can swap between healing and damage instantly. Mercy also has the ability to fly towards her allies and she can even revive one with her ability.

The ability to benevolent

Scepter: Attaches to allies to provide a healing stream or increase damage.

Caduceus Blaster: Fire a small automatic pistol.

Guardian angel: Fly towards an ally. Jumping in flight will launch you forward, crouching will launch you upwards.

Rehibilitate: Revive a dead ally.

Angel lineage: Falling slowly.

The Last Valkyrie: Gain the ability to fly and enhance all other abilities.

If you want to deal damage, don’t choose Mercy

Just because Mercy has a gun doesn't mean you should use it outside of emergencies.
Just because Mercy has a gun doesn’t mean you should use it outside of emergencies.

While Mercy is equipped with an automatic pistol, it should only be drawn in an emergency or if the rest of your team is dead. In almost every other case, your time is better spent healing or buffing teammates, which is your role as a support hero. There are other supports that can deal damage, though they don’t heal as much as Mercy. It might seem a bit odd to not shoot in a first-person shooter, but Mercy’s aim is to keep the rest of the team alive.

Sharing is caring

Anyone who has played Overwatch 2 has probably seen what is commonly referred to as “Pocket Mercy.” This refers to a Mercy that sticks to a single ally, always giving them a healing or damage boost. While this can work in the case of a combination of Pharah and Mercy, most of the time your services should be available to everyone on the team. The best way to ensure that you are constantly providing healing to heroes who need it is to constantly move between teammates, healing whoever really needs it. If you’re focusing on pocketing your teammates for the time being, this is a good time to do this while your teammates are using their ultimate.

Valkyrie’s ultimate greatly increases healing

Using Mercy’s ultimate skill allows her to fly and increases her output. One of the ways it does that is by allowing your healing and damage tethers to branch out to other nearby teammates. This can be used to advance a goal or to counter some enemy ultimatum. Some Mercy players like to use the ultimate as an opportunity to draw their pistols, as in the ultimatum it has a much faster rate of fire. While you will probably get a life or two doing this, your time is better spent healing your team.

More tips about Mercy

  • Revive has a 20 second cooldown and takes a few seconds for the animation to complete, so you need to make sure you’re in the clear before doing it.
  • Resurrection is best used on your tank or DPS, but if only your other healer is injured in a fight you can bring them back as well.
  • Increases damage most effectively with a friendly ultimate, making it able to deal more damage.
  • Use Mercy’s flying ability to keep moving around as much as you can. Being a healer makes your aim more serious, especially if you play Mercy.
  • If you focus on healing your teammates, you can easily heal enemy supports, giving your team a big advantage.
