Overwatch 2 – Hanzo Hero Guide

Overwatch 2 is finally out, turning the hero shooter into a free-to-play title. This change also adds new heroes, new maps and a new mode, Push. This also means that Overwatch has officially switched to 5v5 instead of 6v6, dropping one of each team’s tanks. This means the game’s balance and meta have changed dramatically, with a greater focus on individual performance, meaning highly skilled characters like Hanzo are thriving in the right hand. You can see how all the heroes, including this one, stack up in List of Rank 2 tanks in Overwatch, DPS Level Listand support level list. Where is your favorite land?

Overview of Hanzo

Hanzo is a damage sniper hero, equipped with a Storm Bow that can take down non-tank heroes in a single headshot. Like Widowmaker, Hanzo is best used when sitting in the back row or reaching vantage points where he can shoot enemies from a distance. The Storm Arrows skill allows him to shoot 5 arrows quickly to reduce damage, which is great for dealing with enemies when facing you. His Sonic Arrow can reveal enemy locations and his ultimate ability can destroy enemies in its path.

Hanzo’s Abilities

Storm Bow: Hold to charge then release to shoot the arrows further.

Storm Arrow: Next 5 arrows fire instantly with reduced damage.

Ultimate Dragonstrike: Launch a deadly Dragon Spirit to destroy enemies it comes across.

Climbwall: Jump on the wall and hold to climb.

Find vantage points and let it fly

Hanzo’s qualities as a damage dealer are entirely dependent on your ability to land with his Storm Bow. It’s bullet-based, so you’ll need to lead the shots. You can also adjust the trajectory of the arrow based on how long you hold the arrow before releasing it. To get you the best angle possible, you need to use Hanzo’s mobility. The double jump is a bit more useful for creating distance between you and the enemy, but that and the ability to climb walls allow you to reach higher parts of the map that not every hero can reach. From there, you can more easily hit the enemy.

Donkey Arrow

Hanzo has two abilities that can change the way his arrows work, though not heavy at all. The first is the ability Storm Arrows, which allows Hanzo to shoot up to 5 arrows quickly in a short period of time. These arrows don’t do as much damage as a normal arrow – although a shot to the head is still quite dangerous. This is best used when someone facing you tries to take you down or if facing a tank at medium close range. Sonic Arrow shows nearby enemies wherever it lands and it still deals damage like a normal arrow. This can make it easier for you to take down enemies, or it can help you plan where you will send your ultimate ability.

Since Hanzo has global ultimate ability, it has a lot of versatile abilities.
Since Hanzo has global ultimate ability, it has a lot of versatile abilities.

Hanzo’s ultimate ability, Dragonstrike, sends a flying arrow which, after a short time, spawns two large dragons, which walk in a straight line, orbiting each other. This ends up dealing a lot of damage to enemies standing in its path, great for knocking down narrow paths and choke points or for clearing a Payload. If there’s a group of enemies standing closely together, that’s a great chance for it to rip, but there are a few nuances to this ability to be aware of. At first, the ultimate skill was supposed to be a projectile that could be absorbed or reflected, but only for the first few moments before the dragon appeared, then it would go through anything and everything. Another thing to know is that the ultimate is considered global, so it will travel from wherever you fire it to the bottom of the map, which means you can launch it towards spawning enemies to try try to discourage them.

Other Hanzo Tips

  • Hanzo’s double jump goes in whatever direction you’re moving and moves at a more 45-degree angle, not just straight up.
  • If you want to feel Hanzo’s maximum range and arrow drop, jump into the shooting range and test it out.
  • Although shooting in the head is the most effective way to play Hanzo, shooting at people still deals a large amount of damage.
  • If the enemy team is constantly swarming you, you may need to change your strategy or switch to a different hero.
